Introducing the Kelly McCleary Counselor-in-Training Scholarship Fund
May 07, 2026
We are proud to share the launch of the Kelly McCleary Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Scholarship Fund, established this year for CIT-1 (grades 9–12) and CIT-2 (grades 11–12) applicants. This meaningful initiative ensures that any Girl Scout who wishes to participate in our Counselor-in-Training program at Camp Dean can do so—fully funded.
Through this scholarship, all fees for CIT-1 and CIT-2 are waived for eligible participants, making these leadership-building experiences accessible to more Girl Scouts across our council. There is no separate application required. When a Girl Scout indicates interest in the CIT program on the camp registration form, the scholarship will automatically be applied. Please use coupon code CITSCHOLARSHIP when registering. Those who have already signed up for the CIT program for 2026 will have any paid fees reimbursed from this fund. Families may also choose to waive the scholarship or contribute to the fund to support future participants.
The fund was created by the McCleary family in memory of Kelly McCleary, a lifelong Girl Scout, Gold Award recipient, and dedicated volunteer who passed away in 2024. Kelly’s legacy as an educator, mentor, coach, and champion for girls lives on through this opportunity. She deeply believed in the power of the CIT program and the confidence, leadership, and service it inspires. Initial funding comes from memorial and tribute gifts made in Kelly’s honor, with additional support welcomed to sustain the program for years to come.
This scholarship is more than financial support—it’s an investment in the next generation of leaders. By removing barriers to participation, we are expanding access to transformative Girl Scout experiences and honoring a legacy rooted in service, generosity, and belief in every Girl Scout’s potential.
Should you like to know more about how to contribute to this fund or to know more details in general, please send an email to customercare@girlscoutsni.org and a member of our senior team will be in touch.
