What do you get when you mix fruit, sugar, a little science, and a whole lot of fun? Jam! Get ready to roll up your sleeves, stir things up, and discover how a few simple ingredients can transform into something delicious you can make at home.
Jam making is more than fruit and sugar; it's food science and everyday life skills in action. Girl Scouts will learn how ingredients work together while building practical kitchen skills they can use at home.
Attendees will practice reading and following a recipe, measuring ingredients, safely using kitchen equipment, understanding food safety, cleaning up, and following a process from beginning to end. They'll also explore the roles of fruit, sugar, acid, pectin, and heat as they make their own small batch of jam.
Younger Girl Scouts can spread the fun, too! Those who aren't quite ready for the hot cooking portion will explore liquids, gelatin, temperature, and texture while making a fruit juice jelly treat.
As part of our Life Skills series, this program is designed to help Girl Scouts build practical skills, confidence, and independence-all while making something they can enjoy at home.
