Super Girl Scout volunteer Michelle R.—GSNI Troop 2385 leader, travel troop leader, and GSNI's Volunteer Travel Advisor—recently returned from a trip to Our Chalet in Switzerland for their New Year’s Break program.
"It was an amazing and unforgettable week high in the Swiss Alps," Michelle says. "I met other Girl Scout and Girl Guide leaders from around the world and developed such great friendships. I pushed myself physically as we hiked miles around—on top of mountains and with elevation gains I could never achieve in northern Illinois."
Michelle’s trip highlights included watching the fireworks explode over Adelboden at midnight on New Year’s Eve, playing games outside the chalet before spending the afternoon crafting, and hiking to the Woodcarver where she bought her name badge and woggle and added a GSNI patch to the ceiling.
While in Switzerland, Michelle proudly earned the Our Chalet Challenge Badge and received the Our Chalet pin for all those who visit the World Center. She was excited to add this pin to her World Center collection and has now visited three of the World Centers. She notes, "Girl Scouting really takes you places!"
Monthly travel events are held at GSNI’s South Elgin Resource Center and are offered throughout this school year to prepare Girl Scouts for travel.
