Appreciative Inquiry Action Teams Update – October 2021

News

Over the summer of 2021, GSNI interviewed many volunteers and older Girl Scouts, as well as staff and Board Members, and held two workshops to gather the best ideas to grow our recruitment through innovation and inclusion. Based on the output of this process, we developed five Action Teams to drive and support membership growth. These teams are led by staff members, with Board, volunteer, and older Girl Scout representation. We’re excited to share regular updates on the work of these teams. Read on to learn more about how we’re starting off the new membership year!

Older Girl Scouts

We held our first meeting in late July to discuss ways for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors to be more involved at the council level and find opportunities to connect with one another. Over the next three years, we would like to create an Emissary Group of Older Girl Scouts which will eventually include groups of Girl Scouts focused on recruitment, council events, media outreach, and other topics. We plan to survey Girl Scouts at these levels to identify their interests and needs and then form groups.

Our first focus will be finding Girl Scouts who are interested in assisting with the recruitment of younger Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts along with older Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors through in-person or virtual events. Training will be provided! We are also currently researching the possibility of using the Band app as a new communications tool for this group of Girl Scouts.

Meetings will be held monthly through Zoom. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 5, at 7 p.m.

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement Team held its first meeting in August with a lively discussion about how to better identify and engage with key players in communities across GSNI, with the goal of increasing our visibility and developing a stronger, broader network of support. Over the coming year, the team aims to better gather and use all data about our communities, develop plans to be better represented at key community events, engage volunteers in identifying key players, and more.

Interested in these topics, or have insight to share about your local community? We’d love to have your perspective on our team! Please reach out through the link below.

Communications and Brand Awareness

The Communications and Brand Awareness Team has met twice. Our focus is to ensure that GSNI is communicating to its members and potential members effectively and efficiently. This year, we’re looking for new pathways to spread the word about Girl Scouts, starting up GSNI’s very own podcast, and looking at our website and emails to make sure our message is getting across.

We’re interested in what you have to say and how you’d like to help! Feel free to reach out to us, so we can include you as we schedule our next meeting.

Recruitment Processes

The Recruitment Processes Action Team has met twice. Our focus is to ensure that GSNI’s recruitment processes can continue to change and improve the ways we engage and recruit new members, potential Girl Scouts, and adults. We are looking to set up a robust recruitment process for the next three years with the biggest impact for the coming year.

If you have an interest, a passion for recruiting, or some ideas to be included, please reach out, and we will include you on the next monthly meeting!

Hiring for Diversity

The Hiring for Diversity Action Team met in August to create a strategy to develop and implement a plan for recruiting and hiring a more diverse staff that reflects our communities. The team will be reviewing current hiring processes, job postings and more to help attract more diverse candidates when recruiting for open positions. Key to this initiative will be to coordinate our efforts with the work being done by the Community Engagement Team as engaging with key players in our communities can provide us with new opportunities to invite those interested to apply to work at GSNI.

If you have ideas on how we can improve our hiring processes, please reach out. We’d love to hear from you!

If you would like to learn more about any Action Team or are interested in joining, please contact customercare@girlscoutsni.org with the subject line “Action Team” and specify which Action Team you’d like to learn more about!
