Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is still on the move!
You may recall our announcement in October 2017 to move to a number of smaller leased Resource Centers within our council. Earlier we announced we have secured a location in Lake Zurich, and today we follow up with news of a new leased location in South Elgin at 353 Randall Rd, South Elgin, IL 60177. We expect to move in by late May and would expect to move out of our current Elgin location at the same time.
This location, as part of our planned network of resource centers, makes it convenient for our members to stop in at our Resource Centers while completing many of your errands nearby. It is also a high trafficked location, next to the Jewel on the corner of Randall and Stearns, and will be visible to non-members who will be encouraged to drop in to find out more about Girl Scouts.
We have partnered with FGM Architects in Oak Brook, IL, who is working with us pro bono to use our resources wisely and make efficient use of the space. It will be bright and welcoming for you to stop in and get everything the G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader™) in your life needs, from event registration to Girl Scout uniform components. Please stay posted to our website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations as we transition from one location.
Initially, hours at this location will be:
- Sunday - CLOSED
- Monday - 11-7
- Tuesday - 10-6
- Wednesday - 11-7
- Thursday - 10-6
- Friday - 10-6
- Saturday- 10-1 and 1:30-5
There will be a permanent on-site Resource Center Specialist who will be available during hours of operation. Some additional staff will be using this Resource Center as hoteling space. “Hoteling” means this staff will mostly be working in the community but will be available at key times and by appointment at the Resource Center.
There is some dedicated meeting space in the South Elgin Resource Center, and we intend to make this available to troops and service units for meetings. The process is still to be finalized.
Plans are in the works for opening celebrations, and we’d love to see you there! You’ll get to meet the staff who will be working in your community, see the GSNI design created by FGM Architects, and celebrate with your sister Girl Scouts! Celebrations will be announced on our website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations and on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
We are also establishing “playbooks” for each location which will help us integrate the Resource Centers into communities through participation in community events. If you have ideas, we would love to hear them!
We intend to have a “farewell week” at the Elgin location in May 2018. This would include special store offers, an Elgin store commemorative patch, and cupcakes. We will announce the timing on our website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations and on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
Check back here as we look to move to new or improve existing Resource Center locations throughout the year. We can’t wait to share news about McHenry, Oswego, Rockford, Freeport, and Rock Falls as we make progress!
We are counting on your support to help us establish Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois as a highly visible and valued presence in the communities around our council geography. Girl Scouts is the premier leadership organization in the USA for girls and we want everyone to know it!
