You may recall our announcement in October 2017 to move to a number of smaller leased Resource Centers within our council. Earlier we announced that we have secured locations in Lake Zurich and in South Elgin.
A location in Freeport at Meadows Shopping Center, 1834 S West Ave, Suite 21, Freeport, IL 61032 has been leased! We expect to move in by late May and would expect to move out of our current Freeport location at the same time, following a very recent sale of the property. GSNI has worked with ReMax Realty and Jim Bangs to secure this new location.
This location, as part of our planned network of Resource Centers, makes it convenient for our members to stop in at our Resource Centers while completing many of your errands nearby. It is also a high trafficked location and we will be visible to non-members who will be encouraged to drop in to find out more about Girl Scouts. Additionally, we are moving to smaller footprints where possible to reduce our environmental impact and better manage costs.
We have partnered with FGM Architects in Oak Brook, IL to design these spaces to make best use of small spaces, use our resources wisely and be easily accessible. They will be bright and welcoming for you to stop in and get everything the G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader™) in your life needs, from event registration to Girl Scout uniform components. Please stay posted to our website at http://www.girlscoutsni.org/locations as we transition from one location to the other to stay up to date.
Initially, hours at this location will be:
Sunday – CLOSED
Monday – CLOSED
Tuesday – 10:00-1:00, 1:30-6:00
Wednesday – 11:00-3:00, 3:30-7:00
Thursday – 11:00-3:00, 3:30-7:00
Friday – 10:00-1:00, 1:30-6:00
Saturday – 10:00-5:00
There will be a permanent on-site Resource Center Specialist who will be available during hours of operation. Some additional staff will be using this Resource Center as hoteling space. “Hoteling” means that this staff will mostly be working in the community, but will be available at key times and by appointment at the Resource Center.
We are still determining how the space can be used by troops or Service Units for meetings. Due to its small size, there will not be a dedicated meeting space, but the furniture is designed to be moveable so that it can be reconfigured to provide a small meeting space.
Plans are in the works for grand opening celebrations, and we’d love to see you there! You’ll get to meet the staff that will be working in your community, see the GSNI design created by FGM Architects, and, celebrate with your sister Girl Scouts! Celebrations will be announced on our website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations and on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
We are also establishing “playbooks” for each location which will help us integrate the Resource Centers into communities through participation in community events and so on. If you have ideas, we would love to hear them.
We will fondly remember our time at the current Freeport location. The location at US Business 20 West was previously a home and a supper club before being purchased in 1990 by Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts to serve as an office. In 2009, Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts combined with 3 other local Girl Scout councils to form Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.
We intend to have a “farewell week” at the current Freeport location in May. This would include special store offers, a Freeport store commemorative patch and cupcakes. We will announce the timing on our website at www.girlscoutsni.org/locations and on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
Check back here as we look to move to new or improve existing Resource Center locations throughout the year. We can’t wait to share news about McHenry, Oswego, Rockford, and Rock Falls as we make progress.
We are counting on your support to help us establish Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois as a highly visible and valued presence in the communities around our Council geography. Girl Scouts is the premier leadership organization in the USA for girls and we want everyone to know it!
