Be a part of the change, and take a stand against bullying! Join GSNI as we premiere I Am the Music: A Rock Operetta, an anti-bullying film starring Girl Scouts from 23 cities in GSNI’s jurisdiction. Take part in hands-on activities like making a peacemaker box, showing love on the heart wall, and receive self-defense instruction from trainer Kevin Engstrom. Activities from aMUSE and aMAZE! Journeys will be featured for girls. Adult breakout sessions with local community experts will also be held to discuss cyberbullying and how to identify if a child is a bully. The workshop is open to all girls (registered Girl Scouts and non-registered girls) in grades 4–8.

This event was first held in St. Charles on April 6, 2013. Both girls and parents alike found the event informative and fun. Many parents commented that they usually do not have the opportunity to talk about subjects such as bullying with other parents and were happy that Be Part of the Change gave them an opportunity to do so.

When asked about what her favorite part of the event was, one girl participate was quoted as saying, “I loved learning about self defense. It made me feel that I can stand up for myself.” Other girls noted the Instagram and Peacemaker Box activities as their favorites.
