Troop/Group Expectations
- Troops/Groups should reflect the diversity of the community. All girls are welcome, regardless of socioeconomic status, of racial, ethnic, cultural or religious background, or of disability.
- The term “group” is used to describe gatherings of Girl Scouts in a variety of settings. Groups include, but are not limited to, girls meeting on a limited basis, girls pursuing like interests and girls from more than one Girl Scout service unit.
- Each troop/group should have a minimum of two trained adults regularly present at meetings. Additional adults are required as listed in the revised (04/09) edition of Safety-Wise.
- General meetings require two non-related adults for a group of :
12 girls for a Girl Scout Daisy troop/group (grades K-1)
20 girls for a Girl Scout Brownie troop/group (grades 2-3)
25 girls for a Girl Scout Junior troop/group (grades 4-5)
25 girls for a Girl Scout Cadette troop/group (grades 6-8)
30 girls for a Girl Scout Senior troop/group (grades 9-10)
30 girls for a Girl Scout Ambassador troop/group (grades 11-12)
- Troops/groups should be large enough to give girls experience in self-government.
- Girls who want to be members of the Girl Scout Movement, but are unable to or unwilling to join a troop/group, may register as Independent Girl Scouts or Juliettes.
- It is expected that the leadership team will be receptive to taking new girls throughout the year with the following guidelines:
- Contact information (phone numbers) of possible troop/group leaders will be distributed to interested girls and parents for placement in troop.
- Leadership team should contact recruiter or membership staff member about accepting girls on the waiting list before actively recruiting girls on your own
- Leadership team will notify recruiter or membership staff member to replace inactive girls.
- Troops/groups will meet often enough to ensure that Girl Scouting makes a difference in the
girls’ lives. Troops may meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. All troops/groups, however,
should expect to meet at least six times in a membership year and are encouraged to meet
more often.
