Volunteer Essentials – is a resource document answering the many questions that you may have about Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. It covers topics such as programs, badges, meetings, awards, and cookies. It will educate you on council procedures and how they work. Along with the Safety Activity Checkpoints it will help you plan trips, understand your girls and get the most out of your leadership role.

Girl Scouting 101 - this class is required of all adults that are working with girls. It teaches them the importance of all the components of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience including the three keys to learning (Discovering, Connecting, and Taking Action.) It also teaches them about the importance of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning. It teaches them that we are looking for girls to achieve the values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors that are valued in Girl Scouting, and how these create girls with courage, confidence and character that make the world a better place. We show them how to utilize the Journey books and their lesson plans and how to plan addition activities that go along with the outcomes Girl Scouts are looking for.

Volunteering for Girl Scout Series & Events- this class is required of all adult volunteers who are working with girls on a Girl Scout series or on Girl Scout events. It will prepare you to keep girls safe and understand the program portfolio.

Indoor Overnights - this class is required of all adults wanting to take their girls on an overnight with modern facilities. This class teaches adults how to progression needed to ready girls for an overnight trip, when girls are emotionally and physically ready to spend the night away from home, planning the trip, paperwork and safety, and many ideas on things that they can do in the outdoors to educate the girls.

Basic Outdoor Skills - this class is required for all adults who have already taken Indoor Overnights for cooking and building fires outdoors. It explains progression in outdoor cooking, demonstrate procedures for cooking outdoors, explain care and use of a latrine, how to do outdoor activities with minimal environmental damage, what supplies are needed for an outdoor trip, proper fire building safety and precautions. It also addresses use of a propane stove and lantern, how to tie at least 3 simple knots, knife safety, and outdoor cleanup.

Basic Outdoor Skills
Outdoor Overnights - this class is required for all adults who have already taken Indoor Overnights for spending the night in an area without modern facilities. It explains how to prepare a delicious, nutritious meal outdoors, safe dishwashing methods, review of fire building and safety and different types of cooking fires and methods. It teaches how to pitch a tent and put up mosquito netting. It also teaches activities for camping, review of latrine care, and cleaning up with minimal impact to the environment. Participants are required to spend the night at one of Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois facilities (Camps).
Face-to-Face Trainings
Archery - this class is the National Archery Association class that teaches adults how to facilitate basic archery skills for girls. It covers the equipment, safety procedures, and coaching of girls for successful archery achievement and is required for adults to teach their girls archery.
There are currently no Archery trainings available.
Enrichment Training - these classes are made for educating adults how to do activities with their girls that they may not be familiar with. Some of these include team building, songs, scrapbooking, candle making, crafts and Field Trips.

Field Trip Basics – this resource document will familiarize you with how to take your girls on field trips while educating them, making sure they are safe, and the paperwork that is necessary.
