Girl Scout Online Learning

The online Volunteer Orientation (both English- and Spanish-language versions) is the first close-up view of the Girl Scout organization for all new volunteers. Leadership Essentials will help you get your up close and personal with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Click on this link: http://www.onlinelearning.girlscouts.org and select the online training you want to take.

Volunteer Orientation: This convenient, online course is designed to introduce new volunteers to Girl Scouting and the many rewarding alumnae that Girl Scouting offers girls and adults. The link below will take you to the orientation—following these instructions (it might be a good idea to print this screen before you begin):

Once you've reached the page that requires your password, enter the word "discover."

When you get to page 12 in the Volunteer Orientation, a screen will come up with the option at the bottom for Learning Log. Click on the link and it will bring you to the instructions for completing the Learning Log.

Please make sure that you complete the appropriate boxes and type in your first name and last name. Type in your e-mail address, type a semi-colon, and then training@girlscoutsni.org.

Use the dropdown menu to locate and click on our council—Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. Click on the Continue button.

When the next screen appears, type in your answers to the corresponding questions. When you are finished answering the questions, click on the Continue button.

On this next screen, you will have the ability to click on the Edit button and change your basic information. Click on the second Edit to change the content of your Learning Log answers. Click the Continue button at the bottom of either the basic information page or the Learning Log page to return to this page. Then scroll to the bottom and click on Continue.

On this next screen you will be given an Access Key. You will need this Access Key if you shut down the Volunteer Orientation and want to edit your Learning Log at a future time. Click on the Continue button and you should receive a message stating that "Your data input is now complete."

This completes your Orientation Training! You should receive an e-mail that informs you of your Access Key with a link back to your Learning Log if for any reason you would need to or if you would need to go back and print your Learning Log.

Leadership Essentials: This learning opportunity is for new and existing volunters and takes the place of previous program level training. Once you have taken this course, you will NOT need any further program level training. This course will help you understand the meaning of the three keys to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, including the journeys (Girls' book with accompanying Guide for Adult Volunteers). The course will illustrate how to facilitate activities so that they are girl-led and combine learning by doing and cooperative learning. Finally, it will convey the value of inner leadership practices for volunteers and the girls they serve. Note: You must have the Journey's adult "how to" guide and girl book for any level, as well as the appropriate Petal, Try-It, Badge or IP book for this Webinar.

Just click on Leadership Essentials and follow the prompts.

If you have any questions regarding these instructions or need help with the process, please call the volunteer development specialist at 847-741-5521, Ext. 7118 or e-mail her at jmunday@girlscoutsni.org.
