Realignment Overview On October 1, 2009, Fox Valley, Rock River Valley, Green Hills, and Sybaquay councils combined their strengths to form Girl Scouts of Northern Ilinois. These four joined Girl Scout councils across the nation in a historic transformation of the Girl Scout Movement into the nation's premier leadership development experience for girls. In 2004, Girl Scouts of the USA developed a "Core Business Strategy" in an effort to modernize the organization and focus on leadership development for girls in the twenty-first century. One critical piece of the Core Business Strategy is the creation of a foundation for long-term success of the Movement to best serve girls. As part of this revitalization process, Girl Scouts of the USA worked with demographers on a map of councils to be realigbed to create high-capacity councils, reducing their numbers from over 300 to 109 councils nationwide. A high-capacity council is defined as one who uses resources efficiently and has the funding, connections, and scale to achieve the Girl Scout mission now and in the future, thus providing a relevant and compelling benefit to girls. |
