The Kelly McCleary Counselor-in-Training Registration Scholarship Fund

The Kelly McCleary Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Registration Scholarship Fund was established in 2026 by the McCleary family to support GSNI Girl Scouts in completing Counselor-in-Training 1 (CIT-1) and Counselor-in-Training 2 (CIT-2).

Kelly McCleary was a lifelong Girl Scout, Gold Award recipient, and dedicated volunteer who passed away in 2024. Her legacy as an educator, mentor, coach, and champion for girls lives on through this opportunity. She deeply believed in the power of the CIT program and the confidence, leadership, and service it inspires. GSNI is grateful to the McCleary family for honoring her memory through this meaningful scholarship.

CIT-1 sessions are a 13-day/12-night program for Girl Scouts entering grades 9–11. Participants develop leadership and outdoor skills while helping camp staff facilitate activities. CIT-2 sessions build on CIT-1 and focus on planning camp activities, learning camp administration, and advanced outdoor skill training for Girl Scouts in grades 10–12.

Through this scholarship, all fees for CIT-1 and CIT-2 are waived for eligible participants, making these leadership-building experiences accessible to more Girl Scouts across GSNI. No separate application is required. When a Girl Scout indicates interest in the CIT program on the camp registration form, the scholarship will automatically be applied.

Eligible Girl Scouts may receive one scholarship per year. Girl Scouts may receive scholarships for both CIT-1 and CIT-2 programs but not in the same year. All applicants will receive the CIT-1 or CIT-2 registration scholarship, so long as funds are available. Families may choose to waive the scholarship or contribute to the fund to support future participants.

This scholarship is more than financial support—it’s an investment in the next generation of leaders. By removing barriers to participation, we are expanding access to transformative Girl Scout experiences and honoring a legacy rooted in service, generosity, and belief in every Girl Scout’s potential.

Initial funding comes from memorial and tribute gifts made in Kelly’s honor, with additional support welcomed to sustain the program for years to come. Make a direct donation to the Kelly McCleary Counselor-in-Training Registration Scholarship Fund in any amount on our website here.
