Centennial Celebration Success!

GSNI's Centennial Celebration on April 28 was a huge success! Over 2,500 people attended the event that honored over 100 years of Girl Scouting! There was so much to do at the event with attendees able to choose from over 50 attractions, including a rock-climbing wall and the very popular Girl Scouts Forver Green Service Project booth.

Pop music sensation Savvy helped kick things off with an opening concert before local Girl Scouts took the stage to recreate 100 years of Girl Scout history. Girls lined the stage wearing vintage Girl Scout uniforms from every era while the narrator talked about Girl Scout fashion throughout the years.

Girls and boys enjoyed traveling around the NIU Convocation Center getting stamps to fill the empty spaces on their event passports. Passport stops included the Play Zone with inflatables and DJ, Camp Pathways, Girl's Voices Project and many more. Children who filled their passports were entered in a drawing for exciting prizes given away at the end of the day.

Thanks to a LEGO® Education Showcase Grant, made available through Education Blueprints Association, attendees were also able to use their imagination to creat LEGO models depicting the theme of "Girl Scouts—The Next 100 Years."

Vendors included an American Girl® booth with an American Girl-themed craft and doll raffle. BMO Harris Bank helped kids learn about financial literacy through a life-size board game based on their Helpful Steps for Parents program - a free, online tool for parents to teach their kids how to be money smart, accessible 24/7. Additional vendors included Brookfield Zoo, Brunswick Zone, Discovery Zone, Discovery Center Museum, Kane County Cougars, KeyLime Cove, Magic Waters, Midwest Museum of Natural History, Raging Waves and more!

State Street Dance coordinated an upbeat dance on stage in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts, right ahead of Radio Disney AM 1300 Road Crew who brought music, dancing and prizes to the main stage at 2 p.m. Other performances included a Girl Scout Sing-along and a demonstration by Kim's Blackbelt Academy. Savvy took the stage again at the end of the day for an amazing closing performance that rocked the audience!

GSNI would especially like to thank the sponsors who made this event possible! BMO Harris Bank was proud to support the Centennial Celebration as sponsor of the Radio Disney AM 1300 Road Crew. Other event sponsors included KishHealth Systems, WTVO and Shaw Media. The Girl Scouts Forever Green Project was also made possible through a partnership with Goodwill Industries and The Fabric Center of Morris, Illinois.

A special thank you to every person who attended the event and helped GSNI officially ring in 100 years of Girl Scouting! Here's to the next 100 years!
