Juliet

Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting. She believed all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. With the goal of bringing girls out of isolated home environments, and into community service and the open air, Girl Scouts hiked, played basketball, went on camping trips, learned how to tell time by the stars, and studied first aid. One hundred and one years later, Girl Scouts are still doing that and much more!

Typically, when you think of a Girl Scout Volunteer, you think of a Troop Leader. But, there are many other volunteer opportunities available with GSNI! Some include working with girls, and others include connecting a volunteer’s special talents with our areas of need! Also, some available positions do not require a year-long commitment.

While delivering Girl Scout Cookies this week, don't forget about these helpful tips:

  • Girls wear a membership pin, uniform, or Girl Scout clothing (e.g., Girl Scout T‐shirt) to clearly identify themselves as Girl Scouts.

  • Girls and accompanying adults are familiar with the areas and neighborhoods where product sales take place.

  • Girls participate in door‐to‐door sales only during daylight hours.

  • Use safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing at busy intersections. Do not enter the home of a stranger.

  • Do not carry large amounts of money. Provision for safeguarding the money is made in advance.

Also, we wanted to mention if you missed the Booth Buzz meetings held at GSNI Service Centers earlier this month, you can get some great ideas by watching the How to Host a Successful Cookie Booth training videos from Mari Kaye Rath's presentation.
