Cook by the Fire

Did you know you could cook almost anything over the fire, even cake? During GSNI’s summer camps, we provide an opportunity for all campers to cook over the fire at least once. It might be breakfast, dinner, dessert, or even just a snack. Cooking over fire gives girls the opportunity to create and try new things. At camp, we use several favorite recipes including the one below! Come to camp this summer and enjoy a newfound campfire favorite. It’s sure to be delicious!

 

Here’s a recipe to try at home in the oven, before you try it at camp this summer!

 

Cobbler (Dump Cake)
1 box yellow cake mix
1 can favorite pie filling
1 stick butter (cubed)

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8” or 9” square baking pan. Evenly spread the pie filling on the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the DRY cake mix over the pie filling. Drop the butter cubes over the top of the cake mix. Bake in oven for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes. Enjoy with your favorite ice cream!
